America is starting to take notice of what Vancouver foodies have known for a long time: Vancouver is the next big city for fine dining. Food & Wine Magazine recently highlighted our town’s blossoming dining scene, portraying Vancouver as primed to steal culinary thunder from the more famous city in the south, Portland. As one of those restaurants taking bold risks and constantly striving for new excellence with our menus and dining experiences, we’re glad to see Vancouver’s dining scene starting to get the national recognition it deserves!

Our Head Chef Capers Ogletree says, “[Vancouver’s dining scene] already feels like how Portland used to feel, and it’s going to continue. There’s enough of a scene to make it worthy of note, and I think it’s only going to become bigger and more competitive. [At Eatery at the Grant House] it’s fun to feel ahead of the curve here, get in and build it up.”

To locals, it’s not surprising that Vancouver is looking like the next big go-to for fine dining in the Portland area. Vancouver’s population is steadily increasing as the region attracts those seeking to avoid or flee Portland’s explosive and crowded real estate market, not to mention living and working in a state with no income tax. As a way to highlight the diversity of dining in Vancouver is the month-long festival “Dine the Couve,” featuring over 25 participating restaurants who offer fixed menu and drink specials and enticing Portland diners to make the trek across the Columbia River.

And like Capers, it’s not just the diners crossing the river. Several prominent chefs from well-loved Portland eateries like Screen Door and Fratelli’s have set up new establishments in Vancouver, like The Grocery and Willem’s on Main, respectively.

Here at The Eatery at Grant House, we are excited to be part of the blossoming Vancouver dining scene, and invite you to experience it yourself! We have a new extended brunch menu, served seven days a week, and our new dinner menu, which highlights fresh ingredients with our farm-to-table based kitchen. Join us for upcoming events like wine tastings – or even book your own event, all in the historical gem of Fort Vancouver’s Officers Row, the Grant House.
